Summary vs summary_large_image
The big difference is image size. summary_large_image gives you a full-width image card that grabs attention in feeds. summary uses a small thumbnail. Use the large version for almost everything.
Image requirements
- summary_large_image: 2:1 ratio, minimum 300×157, maximum 4096×4096. Recommended 1200×628.
- summary: 1:1 ratio, minimum 144×144, maximum 4096×4096. Recommended 240×240.
- File size: Under 5 MB.
- Format: JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF (no animation).
Frequently asked questions
Do I need both Twitter cards and Open Graph?
X falls back to OG if no Twitter tags exist. Having both gives you tighter control on X specifically.
Why is the @ in front of handles?
X requires the @ in twitter:site. If you provide a handle without @, this tool adds it automatically.
Why does my image not show?
Common: image is not publicly accessible, URL is not absolute, file is too large, or X has cached an older version. Run X Card Validator.
How long does the title need to be?
Keep under 70 chars to avoid truncation. X shows about 70 chars on desktop, less on mobile.
Will Twitter cards help my SEO?
Not directly. They improve sharing CTR, which brings traffic. More traffic, better SEO signals overall.
